Steely Dan
Hey Nineteen
Steely Dan is an American rock band centered on core members
Walter Becker and Donald Fagen. Rolling Stone magazine has called
them "the perfect musical antiheroes for the Seventies."
During their college years, Becker and Fagen spent most of their
time in their dorm room creating music. After
graduation they moved to New York. The two music legends had very
little success for years because their materiel was considered
quite "weird" sounding for their time. Their first music
performance job, only paid them 100 USD per day. Even at this low
rate, their tour manager still took half of their pay.
In 1972, the band started to have commercial success by
releasing albums "Can't By a Thrill" and "Countdown to Ecstasy."
The band reached a peak in popularity in the late 1970s, with the
release of seven albums blending elements of jazz, rock, funk,
R&B, and pop. 1983, the band was disbanded due to
copyright lawsuits and personal reasons. Shortly after, Becker was
later hit by a taxi while attempting to cross a Manhattan street,
shattering his right leg in several places and forcing him to use
crutches for some time.
Regardless of the indifference in personality, appearance and
personal habits, their genius music style attracted millions of
fans. They won four Grammy Awards in the year 2000 when they
released their first album after nearly 20 years silence!
A very wise man once said: "The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man." So if you feel that you are different from everyone else don't try to change yourself so you are the same as everyone else. Remember, variety is the spice of life! Steely Dan's music was considered to be weird to most people, but they still prevailed and won four Grammy Awards. Their music style is one of the most unique styles in rock music history. There are NO other bands that sound like them.
